Scatty Cats

Following the technique of Serbian painter Endre Penovac, this Spring I have experimented with very loosely defined images of black cats. Penovac worked in black ink, while I have used watercolour, black iron oxide or lunar black, both granulating pigments contributing to the random marks making up the cats fur. In some examples other colours have been included, and in all cases the balance between randomness and control has been varied. Scatty6 (below) has already been sold while the rest of the range will form the centre-piece of the Royal Star Arcade Artisan markets (first Saturday of each month) and the Maidstone Art Fair (May 10th).
