Scatty Cats

Following the technique of Serbian painter Endre Penovac, this year I have experimented with very loosely defined images of black cats. Penovac worked in black ink, while I have used watercolour, black iron oxide or lunar black, both granulating pigments contributing to the random marks making up the cats' fur. In some examples other colours have been included, and in all cases the balance between randomness and control has been varied to produce the 'scatty' effect.

The 'Landscape' image below right was sold at the 'inaspace' exhibition in Whitstable this Spring, while the 'Bouquet' is hanging in the Nucleus Arts exhibition at the Halpern Hub in Rochester in August. Both have been priced at £55, framed for hanging.
