Autumn 2025 Showcase

Scatty Cats

Following the technique of Serbian painter Endre Penovac, this year I have experimented with very loosely defined images of black cats. Penovac worked in black ink, while I have used watercolour, black iron oxide or lunar black, both granulating pigments contributing to the random marks making up the cats' fur. In some examples other colours have been included, and in all cases the balance between randomness and control has been varied to produce the 'scatty' effect.
